Homes for Families Honors Senator Sue Tucker

02/12/2009

Homes for Families, a United Way partner agency working to end family homelessness through collaborative policy making honored Senator Sue Tucker with the 2008 Inspiring Leadership Award for a policy maker at their annual meeting on February 10. Senator Sue Tucker represents the City of Lawrence and the towns of Andover, Dracut, and Tewksbury in the Massachusetts Senate. She is Chair of the Housing Committee, a member of the Senate Ways & Means Committee and several other Joint Committees.

The following is a segment from the Homes for Families press release:

[Senator Tucker's] work as a legislator is part of a lifelong commitment to advocacy and community service. Senator Tucker was a key member of the Commission to End Homelessness and provided a strong voice for systems change to better serve families at risk of homelessness. She has been a champion for the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program, and sponsored both the 2008 MRVP Cookie Day and an amendment for increased funding to help low income working families, the disabled, seniors and others experiencing housing uncertainties to avoid entering shelter and to quickly move homeless households into stable housing, providing a cost-effective alternative to shelter that bridges the widening housing affordability gap for low income residents.

Senator Tucker is also the honorary co-chair of the 2009 United Way's Merrimack Valley Women's Leadership Event.
