Is The American Dream Still Alive In Greater Boston

BOSTON ( October 25, 2006 ) – Is the dream of educational, social and economic opportunity getting harder for working class and low-income families to achieve? A new survey released today by United Way of Massachusetts Bay reveals that Greater Boston residents tend to believe the American Dream is somewhat broken (67%) and that it is harder to achieve today than it was just ten years ago (76%). But the survey also finds that despite these views, Greater Boston residents tend to be slightly more optimistic about the American Dream than Americans elsewhere in the country.  read more »

New England Patriots and United Way Team Up for Hometown Huddle

Boston - On Tuesday, Oct 10, players Ben Watson and Artrell Hawkins joinedPatriots Hall-of-Famer Andre Tippett, to spend the afternoon coaching Roxbury youth through football training basics as a part of United Way of Massachusetts Bay ’s annual Hometown Huddle. “We’re going to show you guys what the Patriots do,” the players had promised at the start of the event. Boston Foundation, United Way, other funders join to strengthen summer programs for city teens

Boston – At a time when youth violence appears to be on the rise, The Boston Foundation and United Way of Massachusetts Bay are announcing a $330,000 Summer Safety Funding Collaborative to give high-risk Boston youth more constructive and safer activities during the summer months. The Boston Foundation and United Way of Massachusetts Bay, through its Today’s Girls … Tomorrow’s Leaders Initiative, have each committed $100,000 to the effort.  read more »
