Entrepreneurial Youth Launch Ventures with the Help of United Way

BOSTON – United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley announced today that the organization will be investing $10,500 to give seven teams of entrepreneurial youth the start-up capital they need to inspire their peers, bridge the gap between elders and youth, help the environment and otherwise change the future of their communities. The youth were part of United Way’s Youth Venture Program which inspires and invests in teams of young people, ages 12-18, to start social projects that create positive, lasting change in their communities.  read more »

Unprecedented Need: Unprecedented United Response

BOSTON -- Eighteen United Ways from across the Commonwealth announced today that they are responding to widespread increases in need by uniting for a new statewide drive to provide emergency assistance for basic needs this winter. United Way names Deborah Sinay Chief Development Officer

BOSTON – Michael K. Durkin, president and chief executive officer at United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, today announced Deborah Sinay as the organization’s new Chief Development Officer. With the move, Durkin taps into the leadership and development skills that recently drove to completion a $47 million capital campaign for the Boston Children’s Museum on Children’s Wharf. BOSTON – Today more than 1,600 employees from 55 companies are leaving their blackberries unanswered, their to-do lists in the office, and their suits hanging at home in order to participate in United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley’s (United Way) 17th Annual Community Care Day, an effort to educate volunteers about issues facing the community and foster long-term volunteer engagement. United Way announces new $717,000 commitment in the effort to end homelessness

BOSTON - On the heels of a new report by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development which shows that funding "for permanent supportive housing," reduces the rates of chronic homelessness, United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley is today announcing a new investment of $717,000 to advance the Housing First efforts of 13 organizations in Boston, Cambridge, Lynn, Lowell, Quincy and Somerville.  read more »
