BOSTON – Today more than 1,600 employees from 55 companies are leaving their blackberries unanswered, their to-do lists in the office, and their suits hanging at home in order to participate in United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley’s (United Way) 17th Annual Community Care Day, an effort to educate volunteers about issues facing the community and foster long-term volunteer engagement. Volunteers have become increasingly important as human service organizations try to save money under rising costs of operating and a growing community need.  read more »

Boston Children’s Museum is pleased to announce that it has received a National Leadership Grant for Museums award from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The grant will be used to create the Countdown to Kindergarten Exhibit, a dynamic, innovative public space where parents and educators can see quality early childhood education in action and work together to prepare children for school.  read more »

BOSTON - On the heels of a new report by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development which shows that funding "for permanent supportive housing," reduces the rates of chronic homelessness, United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley is today announcing a new investment of $717,000 to advance the Housing First efforts of 13 organizations in Boston, Cambridge, Lynn, Lowell, Quincy and Somerville.  read more »
